Like many of you, we were “tech bubble investors” through the late 90s and into the early part of this decade. We did well on some stock picks, not so well on others. We spent very little time thinking about intrinsic value, fundamental strength, growth projections, and all of the things that we now know go into making solid, well-informed stock investment decisions. We made most of our stock investment decisions based on hype and overall market direction.
As we became more educated investors and saw that those investors with a value-based approach were more consistently winning and realizing solid returns, we changed our thinking and really started to dig into the information that is made available to all of us over the Internet.
We thought about the critical components of a stock market software product to simplify this process and decided it must offer the following…
Streamlined Data Collection
As we got more into value investing, we realized that just about all of the information we wanted was out there, but not all on the same website. Over time, we identified dozens of sites that each had merit and offered different pieces of relevant data. We found it frustrating to have to open multiple browsers to conduct stock research the way we wanted to and change the search criteria every time we went to a different site. We also found that different sites offered different areas of strength in the data they offered.
It occurred to us that an all-encompassing, browser-based stock market software package could streamline this process if it enabled us to move from one environment to another while keeping our search criteria consistent.
Unlike subscription services, Stock Research Pro does not tie you into a single website or data collection point. Our users are agile and able to move seamlessly across the Internet to collect the information they need quickly and easily.
Stock Valuation Tools
As we continued to mature as stock market investors, we learned about some of the formulas that the great value investors (Graham, Buffett, etc.) use regularly to identify undervalued stocks. This introduced a number of stock valuation calculators into our stock research, so we decided that a complete stock market software package would offer these calculators and an opportunity to save and export the data right into and from the application.
Basic Technical Analysis
Yes, we’re value investors, but we do see how looking at moving averages and understanding the basic concepts of support and resistance can assist in the decision process. To that end, we included a section in the application for tracking these metrics.
Stock Portfolio Tracking
We also believed that a complete application would include a portfolio tracker to track your stock investment performance or even create “What-if” scenarios before you buy anything.
Customizable Watchlist
We figured that as the Stock Research Pro user learned about and got interested in specific stocks, they might want to track them from anywhere within the application. So we put a customizable watchlist on each side of the application to make this possible.
Video Tutorials
Because value investing does require some analysis that not everyone is familiar with, we decided to develop an ongoing video series to teach the Stock Research Pro user what to look for in their research: from data collection, to analyzing financial statements and more. As this video library builds and grows, all Stock Research Pro users will have ongoing access to these powerful study tools.
